Seeds vs Starters: The Battle of the Blooms

Store shelves are starting to flourish with plant life, lined with starts of every variety. They may look much more enticing than that packet of seeds, but which one is going to give you the best results and the most bang for your buck? Seeds are usually the less expensive choice, but starts offer a less time consuming, convenient way to start a garden.

Growing with Starts
When buying starts, huge, blooming plants are not always better. Many times their growth will slow once they have been removed from their environment. Smaller plants have had less time to become acclimated to the environment and will usually catch up to larger plants, although they cost a fraction of the price.

Starts are great for slow growing plants and late bloomers that would otherwise need to be started inside as seeds for them to come to full fruition within the season. If you have a limited amount of space indoors, starts are a great option. Starts are also usually less high-maintenance than seeds, requiring less time and attention.

Growing with Seeds
Growing with seeds is a much more economical option, if you have the time and space to care for them. Seeds also allow you to plant and grow with more frequency. A packet of seeds costs far less than starts and provides you with a much larger number of plants. Buying seeds also gives you more control and options over what varieties you would like to have in your garden, including heirloom and eccentric varieties.

Pay attention to growing times and local weather patterns when deciding whether or not to sow them directly or to begin them indoors. Give your plants a dose of an organic growth stimulant like Grower's Secret Professional which promotes increased root growth and stronger foliage in the sprouting and seedling stages. Grower's Secret Pro also aids in plant stress, helping your young plants be more capable of withstanding stressful conditions due to harsh weather conditions.
